The TimBuild Spookhill Challenge is set to take place on 17 June 2023, starting and finishing at Beaumont Primary School in Somerset West. This unique 15km race offers a challenging route, with stunning views and a mystery that has baffled many.
The route takes runners up Spookhill, a section of Parel Valley Road where cars appear to run up the hill instead of moving downhill. The phenomenon has sparked much debate as to whether it is an optical illusion caused by magnetism or just one of the world’s great unsolved mysteries.
The race is open to all levels of fitness and experience, and participants can expect a challenging course that rewards them with breathtaking views of the surrounding area.
The race entry fee is R120 for licensed runners and R180 for unlicensed runners. With free entries for runners over 70. For those who prefer a shorter distance, there is a 5km Fun Run with an entry fee of R50.
Cash prizes await the top performers, and many lucky draw prizes will be up for grabs. This is a #CarryMyOwn race and is plastic-free. There will be no sachets provided. Runners are encouraged to bring their reusable water bottle or cup to refill at the well-stocked water stations.
We want to encourage sustainable practices during the race and reduce the environmental impact of the event. We believe that it’s essential to protect the natural beauty of the area and the planet while enjoying the thrill of the TimBuild Spookhill Challenge.
Participants can register online at www.topevents.co.za or enter on race day via SnapScan. A donation will be made to the Helderberg Stroke Support Group and our Sponsor TimBuild will match the amount donated.
